YOU NEED THIS, YET SO MANY PEOPLE DON’T HAVE IT!

IF YOU VALUE YOUR PHOTOS YOU ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE AN EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE!

Or, in my case, MANY external hard drives. Any photographer will tell you they have multiple external hard drives. I get a new one every year, and I back up all my sessions and personal work to TWO different external hard drives- because malfunctions happen- hard drives crash, so we must set ourselves up with multiple back ups to keep our treasured memories safe!

TWO BOYS HOLDING FUJI INSTAX CAMERAS UP READY TO TAKE A PHOTO

I’ve had so many clients contact me in a panic because their computer crashed and they don’t have any of their professional family photos anymore. Or, they got a new computer and in the transfer they can’t find some of the images we took together. It breaks my heart because I know I would be sick about losing photos of my sweet kids when they were teeny tiny.

DON’T LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU!

There are some precautions we can take to try to avoid this problem-

#1- GET AN EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE

As I stated previously, I always back up to TWO external hard drives. But, I do not keep any images on my computer, because my files are HUGE and that can slow my machine down. If you aren’t sure where to start when purchasing an external hard drive, I can tell you I am loving my Lacie 4TB portable external drive.

#2- SIGN UP FOR SMUGMUG

I love so much about smugmug but one of the most valuable things about it has to be the unlimited storage!! Also- you can upload video! Which is not always the case with other photo hosting websites. You have the ability to share images with family and friends, and even order prints and keepsakes with your photos.

I KNOW THERE ARE OTHER METHODS OF BACKING UP FILES AND PHOTOS, WHAT ARE YOUR PREFERRED METHODS? PLEASE SHARE IN THE COMMENTS BELOW IF YOU HAVE SOMETHING YOU LOVE MORE THAN EXTERNAL DRIVES AND ONLINE STORAGE.

Good times, great people, lasting memories
