“THE DAYS ARE LONG BUT THE YEARS ARE SHORT”
NOT SURE WHO FIRST COINED THE PHRASE BUT I’M SURE ALL PARENTS CAN RELATE- ESPECIALLY THE FIRST FEW YEARS OF A CHILD’S LIFE.
That first year of your child’s life goes by especially fast partially because babies change so rapidly and also because we are sleep deprived we are barely functioning. I’ve put together a list of three things everyone should do in their baby’s first year to preserve the memories of such a special time.

Book milestone sessions with a professional photographer.
Sure we all have phones with cameras and video capabilities and I encourage you to take a lot of photos and video yourself, but trust me when I say professional photography is different. Do some research on photographers in your area that offer milestone sessions. Not familiar with what milestone sessions are? They are sessions taken in your baby’s first year or two of life that happen every few months [my milestone sessions are usually scheduled at 4, 8, and 12 months] so you can document how much your little one changes in that first season of life. Find a photographer who has images you LOVE, and gift yourself this experience. I promise you will treasure these images!! If you’re in San Diego or the Southern California area and want more information about my milestone sessions click the button below.

Prepare to be in the milestone sessions yourself
Part of the parenting journey and the journey of our families involves us- the parents! So when parents refuse to be in photos we are doing a disservice to our children. Kids want to see what we looked like when they were babies. They wont be able to remember and often are shocked at how young we once looked. 🙂

Have your photos printed
You’ve invested in beautiful photography. You’ve taken the time to get the family prepped and looking good for your sessions. Don’t forget to have your images printed and displayed around your home!! I love mounted prints and albums myself, but I know there are plenty of creative ways to display your treasured photography. Bonus: Your kids will love seeing themselves, and studies have shown children who see photos of them around their home have higher self esteem.
Check out this slideshow from a recent set of milestone sessions. I loved watching this little lady grow into a toddler!
